Installation instructions for Cockpit Manager software for

QS202 - Squadron Commander Joystick.

This disk contains three versions of the cockpit manager software. The reason for doing this is, as each version of the software supplied on this disk is different, they will respond differently on various machines e.g. one version may lock up your machine, whereas another may work perfectly. Version 1.6 is the latest version, and if you have internet access, it is the same version as the one supplied on the Quickshot homepage (http://www.quickshot.com).

Ideally, you should try each version in turn until you come across a version which will work with your machine. Once you have discovered which version works with your machine, delete the other versions which you may have installed and rename the directory to one you prefer. Instructions on how to do this are all given below.

Section 1: Installation Instructions

The three versions supplied on the disk are:

  1. V1.6
  2. 9607
  3. 9608

To install any of the software supplied on the disk, you need to be at the Dos prompt. If you have a Windows 3.xx and Dos based machine, boot up your machine as normal but do not load up Windows. If you have a Windows 95 based machine, it would be a good idea to shut down to the MS Dos prompt. (Start, Shut Down, Restart machine in MS Dos mode)

To install Version 1.6

At the prompt (C:\> also could be C:\WINDOWS>) type:

A:INSTV1_6 <drive>:e.g. A:INSTV1_6 C:

This will copy the files from the A drive onto the drive specified by you into a directory called CMV1_6. When the installation process is complete, it will automatically change directories to this one and all you need to do to run this version is type ‘CM’ and press the enter key.

To install Version 9607

At the prompt (C:\>) type:

A:INST9607 <drive>:e.g. A:INST9607 C:

This will copy the files from the A drive onto the drive specified by you into a directory called CM9607. When the installation process is complete, it will automatically change directories to this one and all you need to do to run this version is type ‘CM’ and press the enter key.

To install Version 9608

At the prompt (C:\>) type:

A:INST9608 <drive>:e.g. A:INST9608 C:

This will copy the files from the A drive onto the drive specified by you into a directory called CM9608. When the installation process is complete, it will automatically change directories to this one and all you need to do to run this version is type ‘CM’ and press the enter key.

Section 2: Removal of redundant software after Installation

Once you have found which version works on your machine it would be a good idea to remove the other versions of the software, which you may have installed on your machine. Let’s say that Version 9608 was the one that worked for you. If you have installed every version, as described above as well as the original software that came with your joystick, you will have directories called

CM CM9607 CM9608 CMV1_6

Obviously if version 9608 was the one that worked for you, you will want to keep it and remove all the other versions.

Deleting directories can be quite easy. It is possible that you already know how to do this, in which case delete each directory as you would find appropriate. If on the other hand, you do not know how to do this then follow the instructions below. Assuming you installed everything on the C: drive:

Dos 6.2 and Above (including Windows 95/NT etc)

Go to the Dos Prompt.

CD \Type this and press enter. The prompt will change to C:\> if it wasn’t already.

DELTREE CMWhen you type this, it may give you the error ‘ Bad command or file name’, in which case go to the section titled ‘Dos 6.0 and lower’. You may get some other error or warning messages, in every case type ‘Y’ for Yes.

DELTREE CM9607As above.

DELTREE CMV1_6As Above.

REN CM9608 CMThis renames the directory CM9608 to CM as it was when you first installed your original software. This would change accordingly if you have a different version which worked for you, as all the instructions given here are assuming 9608 was the version that worked for you. E.g. if it was version 9607 which worked for you, you would deltree cm9608 rather than cm9608, and ren cm9607 rather than cm9608.

Once this is done, you can follow the instructions in the manual about how to run the software. This will be in the same way as you did before.

Dos 6.0 and Lower (usually Windows 3.xx based machines)

This is exactly the same as the Dos 6.2 and above remove, but the command DELTREE will have to be substituted with the following set of commands.

E.g. if you wanted to delete the directory CM, as described above would only require the DELTREE CM command, to get the same effect with Dos 6.0 and lower, you need to type:

CD \CMChange to the CM directory.

DEL *.*Delete all files in this directory

CD..Go up a level. Prompt should change to C:\>

RD CMRemove the empty CM directory.

This would be exactly the same if you wanted to delete for example the CM9607 directory. Just substitute the word CM with CM9607. So you would have:

CD \CM9607Change to the CM9607 directory.

DEL *.*Delete all files in this directory

CD..Go up a level. Prompt should change to C:\>

RD CM9607Remove the empty CM9607 directory.

If you have any problems with the above set of commands, consult the Windows / Dos user manual. If you cannot understand the above sets of commands, then give us a ring and we will talk you through the process and help in any other way we can.

You should now have the new software up and running. You will not have a need for the disk anymore. You should store it somewhere safe i.e. the box of the Squadron Commander, for when you may require it again.

If you have any problems at any stage of this guide, please do not hesitate to get in touch and we will be happy to help.
