Guide on how to setup QS202 with MS Flight Simulator 98

The setup of the joystick with this game is not a problem with the joystick, but more of a bug in the game, which causes the joystick not to respond as it should.

Please follow the directions given below carefully, as not doing so could result in erratic behaviour of the joystick.

Note: in the instructions below FS98 is used to describe the game MS Flight Simulator 98.

  1. Calibrate the joystick according to the Windows 95 setup guide for the QS202 either in HAT or Throttle mode.
  2. Load the Flight Simulator 98 game
  3. Once the game has begun and you have the cockpit view, click on Options on the menu
  4. Now click on Custom Controls this can be found at the bottom of the popup menu.
  5. A window will appear with the title Customize Controls. Make sure that the square light next to Joystick is turned on i.e. green with a tick in it and not shadowed out.
  6. On the right hand side of the window you will see a shadowed out tab which is labelled assignments, click on this.
  7. The screen will change to bring up a different window
  8. If you set your QS202 up in throttle mode then go to point 9, if you set it up in HAT mode, go to point 10.
  9. Go down to the bottom of the list. Two positions up from the bottom, you will find a Throttle axis. Where it crosses with Game Device it should say Axis 03. If it doesn't, click in the area where it should say this i.e. where ‘throttle axis’ and ‘game device’ cross and then click on assign. The selected area should turn another colour (usually blue). When this occurs, move the throttle on the joystick, and Axis 03 should appear in the box. Once this occurs, click on OK at the bottom of the screen, this should take you back to the game and your joystick should be working perfectly.
  10. If you have set your joystick up in HAT mode then it will be automatically setup for use with the game. Click on OK at the bottom of the screen, this should take you back to the game and your joystick should be working perfectly.

I hope this resolves the problem at hand and any future problems that you may have.
