Guidelines for Installing Cakewalk Home Studio
Windows 3.1 and Windows 95
1. Connect the MIDI Composer to the sound card according to the instructions in the user's manual on page 4.
The LED display on the keyboard should display "1"
2. To check if the sound card is properly installed according to the owner's manual
- From PROGRAM MANAGER, open ACCESSORIES, open MEDIA PLAYER
- From MEDIA PLAYER menu select DEVICE/MIDI SEQUENCER
- Open a .MID file
- Press PLAY and check that your sound card can generate music. If there is no sound, refer to the sound card owner's manual for proper installation of the MIDI driver
3. Install "Cakewalk Home Studio"
- Insert the "Cakewalk Home Studio" CD into the CD ROM drive of your computer
- From PROGRAM MANAGER menu open FILE/RUN
- Click START
- Type D;\cakexp\disk1\setup.exe and click OK if "D" is your CD ROM drive. If not replace with the correct letter of your CD ROM drive.
- Restart the computer after completing the isntallation
4. To use "Cakewalk Home Studio"
- Double click the "Cakewalk" icon
- A message occurs the first time you execute "Cakewalk Home Studio." "You haven't selected any MIDI *OUT* devices, so you won't be able to hear anything play! Are you sure?"
- Press "No" to select the devices
- Choose sound card's MPU 401 only as INPUT
- Choose sound card's FM synthesizer (e.g. OPL2, OPL3) as OUTPUT
- Click OK
- Return to Cakewalk screen
